EMS

Energy Management System

An Energy Management System (EMS) is software that monitors, controls, and optimizes energy assets at a site or across a fleet. Site-level EMS manages battery charge/discharge, solar generation, EV charging, and building loads behind a single meter. Fleet-level EMS coordinates hundreds or thousands of sites for VPP participation. EMS handles energy optimization (maximize savings, minimize costs), load management (avoid demand peaks), and grid services dispatch (respond to utility signals). Traditional EMS focuses on efficiency; VPP-grade EMS adds real-time dispatch, telemetry verification, and pay-for-performance compliance.

How Molecule Systems Relates

EMS is Molecule Systems' site-level execution environment, providing real-time, deterministic control via edge hardware at each site and cloud-based virtual control for API-connected devices. Together they enable hybrid VPP architectures: edge control for critical sites and high-value programs, cloud control for basic optimization and API-connected fleets.
